Baby it’s cold outside! While that cold wind tears up your eye, it does much more to your skin. Here’s a few tips to get you through the winter without being scaly.
- Skip the hot, steamy shower. We know nothing feels better than a hot shower on a cold morning but hot water causes a stripping effect to the delicate barrier lipids in between your skin cells. When lipids are removed, your skin loses essential moisture which is especially important during the winter months when we are exposed to drier environments (heated cars, homes, and work).
- It’s time to exfoliate! Exfoliation is important during dry winter months for several reasons. It causes a burst in cell renewal, moving newer, moisture-rich cells to the surface. It also removes dead skin cells which can impede your serums and moisturizers from penetrating properly. Like most things in life, moderation is the key. Exfoliate one to three times a week using an exfoliant appropriate to your skin type.
- Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize. The most effective time to apply moisturizer is within two minutes of exiting the shower (this is true for your face and body!). A moisturizer does not have to be heavy to be effective. One of the best moisturization boosters is hyaluronic acid which has a silky feel and quickly absorbs into the skin. Don’t forget to protect your lips during the winter! Make sure they are kept moist to avoid chapping and cracking.
Try out an Aromatic Sugar Glow. Great exfoliation and moisturizing.
